Online ZIP extractor tool

How to unzip files online in 3 steps

UnzipFiles is a free zip extractor that runs entirely inside your web browser. There is nothing to install and nothing to upload.

  1. 1

    Open your ZIP

Drag and drop a .zip file onto the drop zone or click to choose one. The archive is read directly from your disk into browser memory.

  2. 2

    View zip contents online

Browse the folder tree, check file sizes and modified dates, search by name and preview text, code, CSV, JSON and images.

  3. 3

    Extract zip file contents

Save a single file with one click, or use Extract & Save All Files to unpack everything — with folder structure preserved where supported.

Why use an online ZIP extractor?

Sometimes you need to open zip online on a computer where you can't install software — a work laptop, a school Chromebook, or a borrowed device. UnzipFiles lets you inspect what's inside an archive before you extract anything, so you can grab only the one document you need instead of unpacking hundreds of files.

Private by design

Most online unzip services upload your archive to a remote server. UnzipFiles doesn't. It uses the open-source JSZip library to decompress files locally, which means confidential contracts, source code and personal photos stay on your device.

Fast, even for large archives

Only the central directory is read when you open an archive, so the file list appears almost instantly. Individual files are decompressed only when you preview or save them.

Supported preview formats

Text & code

.txt .json .html .csv .md .xml .js .ts .css .py .yml .log .ini .sql .sh …

Images

Works on every device

UnzipFiles runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Opera on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad. In Chromium-based browsers, Extract All can write the complete folder structure directly to a folder you pick.

Frequently asked questions

How do I unzip files online without software?

+

Open UnzipFiles in any modern browser, drag your .zip archive onto the drop zone (or click to choose it), then browse the contents and click Save File on any item or Extract & Save All Files to unpack everything. No installation is required.

Are my uploaded ZIP files safe and private?

+

Yes. UnzipFiles never uploads your archive. The ZIP is read and extracted entirely inside your browser using JavaScript (JSZip), so your files never leave your device and nothing is stored on any server.

Can I preview files before downloading them?

+

Yes. Click Preview to open text and code files (.txt, .json, .html, .csv, .md, .xml, .js, .css and more) or images (.jpg, .png, .gif, .svg, .webp) in a live preview window before saving them.

Is there a file size limit?

+

There is no fixed limit set by UnzipFiles. Because extraction happens in your browser, the practical limit depends on your device memory. Archives of several hundred megabytes usually work well on desktop computers.

Can UnzipFiles open password-protected or RAR files?

+

UnzipFiles supports standard ZIP archives (including .zip files created by Windows, macOS, 7-Zip and WinRAR in ZIP format). Encrypted (password-protected) ZIPs and RAR or 7z archives are not supported at this time.

How does Extract & Save All Files work?

+

In Chrome, Edge and other browsers that support the File System Access API, you choose a destination folder and UnzipFiles recreates the full folder structure there. In other browsers, each file is downloaded one after another to your default downloads folder.
